14 mars 2014 - Visite de Brendan et Julia BONHAM et Nicolas LEULLIOT

Un jour de février 2014, j'ai eu la surprise de recevoir un appel téléphonique de M. Nicolas LEULLIOT de Paris m'informant du désir de ses amis Brendan et Julia BONHAM de me rencontrer.
Brendan et Julia habitent Croydon, une ville de la banlieue sud de Londres en Angleterre.
Grâce au blog "COURGENT Ensemble" et l'article rapportant l'inauguration des photos des Aviateurs (voir l'article de l'évènement du 5 juillet 2013), Brendan a eu connaissance de l'existence du carré militaire du cimetière de Courgent dans lequel est inhumé son arrière cousin l'Aviateur James Pat STEFFAN. Brendan est cousin de l'Aviateur James Pat STEFFAN par la branche généalogique de son cousin direct Jack WILLIS de Mullingar, comté de Westmeath en Irlande du Sud. C'est ce cousin irlandais qui a informé Brendan de l'existence d'une tombe concernant son arrière cousin J-P STEFFAN à Courgent.

One day of February 2014, I was surprised to receive a phone call from Nicolas LEULLIOT of Paris informing me of the desire of his friends Brendan and Julia BONHAM to meet me.
Brendan and Julia live Croydon, a town in the southern suburbs of London in England.
Thanks to the blog "COURGENT Ensemble" and the article reporting the inauguration of the pictures of the Airmen (see the article of July 5th 2013 event), Brendan was aware of the existence of the military square of the cemetery in Courgent in which was buried his cousin the Airman James Pat STEFFAN. Brendan is a cousin of the Airman James Pat STEFFAN by the genealogical branch of his direct cousin Jack WILLIS of Mullingar, Westmeath County in Southern Ireland. This is this Irish cousin who informed Brendan of the existence of a grave concerning his grandcousin J-P STEFFAN  in Courgent.

Brendan, Julia et Nicolas sont arrivés en voiture (un Berlingo Citroën vitré conduite à droite) de manière presque impromptue, le samedi 14 mars 2014 à 12h00, venant directement de Croydon, via le tunnel sous la Manche et Paris pour récupérer Nicolas avant d'arriver à Courgent.

Brendan, Julia and Nicolas arrived by car (a windowed Berlingo Citroën RHD) the way almost impromptu, on Saturday, March 14th, 2014 at 12:00, coming directly from Croydon, via the Channel Tunnel and Paris to pick up Nicolas before arriving to Courgent.

Nos amis ont visité rapidement le Mémorial Photographique de la Mairie (grâce à la secrétaire qui a accepté de laisser ouverte la mairie quelques minutes après l'heure de fermeture) et ont été étonnés et émus de découvrir les portraits des Aviateurs dont surtout celui de leur arrière cousin James Pat STEFFAN qu'ils voyaient eux aussi pour la première fois.

Our friends visited quickly the Photographic Memorial of the Town Hall (thanks to the Secretary who agreed to leave open the town hall a few minutes after closing time) and were surprised and moved to discover the portraits of the Airmen, especially that of their grandcousin James Pat STEFFAN they also saw for the first time.

Pour que cette courte visite soit parfaite, j'ai invité nos visiteurs au restaurant "Le Pigeonnier" à Longnes.

For this short visit would be perfect, I invited our guests in the restaurant "Le Pigeonnier" in Longnes.

 

Nous nous sommes quittés en fin d'après-midi, Brendan et Julia me promettant de revenir à Courgent à l'occasion d'une autre et prochaine commémoration.
We left late in the afternoon, Julia and Brendan promising to be back to Courgent on the occasion of another and next commemoration.
