M. Timothy WILLIAMS est entré en contact avec moi-même (votre serviteur dans ce blog) par l'intermédiaire de Daniel POCOCK (que nous connaissons depuis sa venue à Courgent le 18 septembre 2021, voir l'article le concernant) et de son site internet.
Timothy est désireux de venir visiter Courgent et de rencontrer des Courgentais dès cette année 2023 et peut-être aussi en 2024. Le frère de sa grand-mère était le père de l'Adjudant d'Aviation Clifford Cecil JONES (c'était son grade au moment de sa mort). Clifford et Timothy étaient cousins.
Mr. Timothy WILLIAMS got in touch with myself (your servant in this blog) through Daniel POCOCK (whom we have known since he came to Courgent in September 18th 2021, see the article concerning him) and his site Internet.
Timothy is eager to come and visit Courgent and meet some Courgentais from this year 2023 and perhaps also in 2024. His grandmother's brother was the father of the Aviation Warrant Officer Clifford Cecil JONES (it was his rank at the time of his death). Clifford and Timothy were cousins.

| Timothy WILLIAMS avec son Van's Aircraft RV-8 qu'il range à l'aéroport de Shoreham. Il vit dans le West Sussex, dans un village appelé Thakeham, non loin de Brighton sur la côte sud. Il est maintenant à la retraite. Il a eu une belle carrière de pilote de ligne et pilote toujours son propre avion léger. Timothy WILLIAMS with his Van's Aircraft RV-8 which he keeps at Shoreham Airport. He lives in West Sussex, in a village called Thakeham, not far from Brighton on the South Coast. He is now retired. He had a great career as an airline pilot and still fly his own light aircraft. |

Mon lien familial avec Clifford JONES est le suivant : ma grand-mère et le père de Clifford étaient frère et sœur. Le révérend Abraham JONES était l'un des 10 enfants nés à Risca près de Newport, dans le sud du Pays de Galles. Risca est un petit village minier dans les vallées du sud du Pays de Galles et le père d'Abraham était mineur de charbon. Moi aussi j'ai été élevé à Risca. Ma grand-mère Phyllis et ma sœur Harriet parlaient souvent d'aller en Australie et de s'asseoir dans la congrégation du révérend Jones pour le surprendre ! Malheureusement, le voyage en Australie était trop cher pour que cela se produise mais je sais qu'ils se sont bien amusés à en parler ! Ma mère est décédée l'année dernière, mais elle a souvent parlé de la fois où Clifford s'est rendu en visite à Risca quelques semaines seulement avant sa disparition. Il faisait sensation parmi les filles du coin, lui qui était beau dans son uniforme ! Ma grand-mère a dû être ravie de le rencontrer. Ils savaient à cette époque qu'il était peu probable qu'ils revoient leur frère, alors voir son fils devait être très émouvant et si dévastateur d'apprendre sa perte quelques semaines plus tard. J'ai recherché l'écusson du 467e Escadron de Clifford et si je peux en obtenir un en vinyle, je le mettrai sur l'aileron (??) en souvenir de l'équipage du LM338.

My family connection to Clifford Jones is as follows : my grandmother and Clifford’s father were brother and sister. Reverend Abraham Jones was one of 10 children born in Risca near Newport, South Wales. Risca is a small coal mining village in the South Wales valleys and Abrahams father was a coal miner. I too was brought up in Risca. My grandmother Phyllis and sister Harriet often chatted about going to Australia and sitting in Reverend Jones congregation to surprise him! Unfortunately travel to Australia was too expensive for it to happen but I know they had fun talking about it ! My mother passed only last year but she often talked about the time Clifford visited Risca only weeks before he was lost. He caused quite a stir amongst the local girls looking handsome in his uniform ! My grandmother must have been so thrilled to meet him. They knew in those days they were unlikely to see their brother again so to see his son must have been very emotional and so devastating to hear of his loss only weeks later. I have researched Clifford’s 467 Squadron crest and if I can get one made in vinyl will put it on the fin (??) in remembrance of the crew of LM338.
